I never thought I’d get emotional about the back of a phone case.
But that little fruit pattern has been present at so many practices and In charge of so many practice videos. So many times we hit record because we knew we needed to get it right, to get better, to push just a little more.
And now I realize it was never about the phone case.
It was about you.
I’m going to miss your passion. The way you showed up every day ready to work. The leadership you gave this team without ever needing attention for it. Your dedication to improving, your respect for dance team, your teammates, and the process. And most of all, how incredibly coachable you were. You listened, you applied, and you never backed down from the work.
Someone once said, “The fruit of our work isn’t just what we produce, it’s what we grow in each other.” And that’s exactly what great teams do, they grow trust, effort, accountability, and belief in one another.
Some of my favorite memories will always be the simple ones, where is Lexi’s phone, oh wait there are the strawberries and the picking up that phone, seeing that fruit case, and recording another practice because you cared enough to keep our team getting better and reaching our goals.
Those practices add up. They build players. They build teams. And you were a huge part of building this team!
I’m going to miss grabbing that phone to make another video. I’m going to miss the strawberries. But more than anything, I’m going to miss you.
You left your mark on this program in ways that go far beyond your graduation. And while we’re proud of everything you’ve done, it’s not going to be the same without you here but we can’t wait to watch you take the floor at a collegiate level!
This team is going to miss you.
And I’m going to miss you more than you know. I love you so very much Miss Lexi Wasson
